Access | Our cottage is yours during your stay and you can freely use the bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, garden, dining room, living room, patio. Since we sometimes go back to relax, you might find some personal stuff in a wardrobe or the fridge.<\/p>\n
Public transport | Due to the location, public transport is not around the corner. However, the nearest bus stall is only 1 km away and the train station of Ternat is 2.7 km away. There is a direct transit between Ternat and Brussels North (9 min.), Brussels Central Station (15 min.) and Brussels South (30 min.) in which you can take the Eurostar to London (01:10h), the Thalys to Paris (01:20h) and theThalys to Amsterdam (01:50h).<\/p>\n
Car | We have plenty of space to put your car on the driveway or under the carport.<\/p>\n
If we are around, we are more than happy to show you around and inform you about the ins and outs of our cottage. If this would not be possible, we will make sure that exerting is cleared out and keys are available in a lock box.<\/p>\n
We made a leaflet explaining the things you need to know about the house and also giving some tips and tricks regarding thing to do where the eat and drink and what to see in the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n
If we are not around and the leaflet doesn’t answer your question we are more than happy to help you out over (text, call, video). Contact information will be provided after booking.<\/p>\n
Neighbourhood | Our house is surrounded by meadows packed by horses and cattle, woods and an endless amount of narrow but muddy pathways. Don\u2019t forget your rubber boots for the numerous strolls along these trails or bring your 4×4 (winch fitted like our good old Jeep a.k.a. Willy) or Motorbike to hit one of the many country roads while visiting one of the many castles or cities (Brussels, Ghent, Mechelen, Leuven, etc.) in this neighbourhood (Pajottenland and Brabantse Kouter).<\/p>\n
Shopping | Albeit the countryside location, all the necessary shops are very close by (shopping centre on less than 1 km offering a supermarket, restaurant, pharmacy, etc.). You can find restaurants and pubs within walking distance, but a vast choice of international food can be found in Brussels which is only 14 km away.<\/p>\n
Holiday House | We recently renovated our ancient cottage so it regained its splendour of yesteryear. We try to restore it by only using antique and\/or old (re-used or up-cycled) building materials without compromising on today\u2019s comfort.<\/p>\n
Master Bedroom | Do you like your bedroom to be spacious but charming?
\nThis bedroom overlooks the garden and neighbouring forest and offers a queen-sized bed (160cm) made of ancient reclaimed boat wood.<\/p>\n
Twin Bedroom | You like your bedroom cosier and you love cuddling?
\nThis bedroom offers 2 small double beds (120 cm) and comes with a stunning view on the next-door meadow and our donkey-neighbours Cois and Bowie. It is up to you if you want to snuffle up with two in one twin bed.<\/p>\n
Living Room | Sleeping in front of the fire.
\nNot the most comfortable but very cozy and romantic night you can spend in an 18th century day bed in the drawing room in front of the fireplace. This space is separated from the living room by a medium-high wall. Let us know up front if you need duvets and bed linen.<\/p>\n
Greenhouse | Magic happens when you sleep under the stars in our greenhouse…
\nIn the middle of the forest, behind our tomato plants, basil and salad is a cosy double bed where you can snuggle close to each other and allow your dreams to take you for a trip to the stars. When it gets colder, there is a pellet burner to keep it toasty. The greenhouse comes at an additional charge of \u20ac 50 per night. Let us know during your booking if you want to add this.<\/p>\n
Kitchen | Foodies united!
\nThe kitchen is fully equipped and fitted with a French range cooker (Lacanche) offering 4 hobs, a coup-de-feu simmer plate and three ovens. Japanese Damascus steel kitchen knives, dish washer, stand mixer.<\/p>\n
BigGreenEgg | Fire up the Barbecue
\nOutside you find our big green egg barbecue which allows you to make delicious smokey ribs, but also pizzas are delicious!<\/p>\n
Bathroom | Soap bubbles galore!
\nAre you more into taking a relaxed bath or a quick shower? There is no need to be decisive! Relax, turn-down the lights and submerge (even with two) in our Victorian style bath tub (Albion Bath Co.) Quick morning showers can be enjoyed together as well, in the big walk-in shower. Pay attention to the different water tap knobs with you morning sleepyhead!<\/p>\n
Garden | Weeds are flowers too, once you get to know them!
\nFind your inner peace in the garden by reading a book in the tree swing chair, having an ap\u00e9ro on the patio or cooking some slow cooked succulent meat on the BigGreenEgg barbecue.<\/p>\n
Bear in mind that 90% of the charged rent covers the holiday home whereas 10% covers the hire of movables. No additional services are provided.<\/p>\n
We compiled a leaflet for you with all practical tips and things to do. The major issues our previous have had encountered we are pointing out below.<\/p>\n

1. All our lights are plugged into sockets that are powered by switches, so there is no need to unplug them separately.<\/p>\n
2. Our water taps are a little old-fashioned. Turn on the left valve to get hot water and the rights one for cold and mix to your liking. It’s important to close the cold tap of the shower always after use in order to guarantee piping hot water in the bath tub (as the pipes are connected).<\/p>\n
3. Our kitchen countertop is natural stone, we kindly ask not to leave any acid liquids or food waste on it, it makes unremovable stains. Please don’t put the kitchen knives in the dishwasher, they really don’t like the long and hot treatment and become dull.<\/p>\n
4. To light the open fire you will find all the tools in the little side room on the right side of the fireplace. Timber can be found underneath the blue cover in the carport. You can use petrol infused fire starters if you whish.<\/p>\n
5. Same for the hottub, timber can be found under the blue cover and wood to start the fire is in the shed next to the house (right hand side of the front door). You can use petrol infused fire starters if you whish.
\nIf you want to use it, it\u2019s best to start heating way ahead as it takes some time to heat it up. Put some of the little wood chunks and a fire starter in the stove and add timber. The metal cover on the stove is to arrange the oxygen supply. You need quite some heat to heat it up. The tub is automartically filtered 6 hours per day. Please don’t unplug it or switch it off when you unplug the garden lights (underneath the outdoor kitchen).<\/p>\n
6. Using the Big Green Egg BBQ is straightforward. One thing to bear in mind is to NEVER use petrol infused fire starter to light the BBQ.
\nOpen the dome, put charcoal in, add 3-4 natural firestarters and leave it open till you see the charcoal is heating up. Then you close the dome and regulate the temperature with the iron daisy wheel on top.
\nAs the egg gets very hot, never open it in one go. You need to “burp” and gently let oxygen in by opening and closing the dome slightly and a few times before opening it completely.<\/p>\n
7. Our music amplifier is a sonos. You can install the app, and it will connect automatically with the sonos when you are on the standard wifi (La Petite Foret – Asse). If you encounter issues, a quick fix is to use the audiojack or iPhone lighting plug that can be found on the shelf underneath the butcher’s block in the living room.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
